Through Meredith鈥檚 statistical and data sciences major, students will be able to make data-driven decisions using advanced data science techniques, as well as form a strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, and computer science.

Our Statistical and Data Sciences Major
Statistics and data sciences are growing fields worldwide as data has become more integrated into our daily lives. The curriculum鈥檚 interdisciplinary nature and internship and research opportunities will prepare students for careers in a variety of industries as well as graduate study.聽
Bachelor of Science in Statistical and Data Sciences
Students earning a bachelor鈥檚 in statistical and data sciences must complete 49-50 credit hours, including 43 credit hours of required courses in mathematics and statistics, computer science, and data science, as well as 6-7 credit hours of electives.

The field of data science is projected to grow 36% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations. The median pay for data scientists is $131,490 per year, according to the .
There is a wide range of job opportunities in data science in the Triangle and across the country. Statistical and data sciences are applied in essentially every field, including artificial intelligence, data mining, data visualization, education, finance, healthcare, political science, pharmaceuticals, and software engineering. Graduates of Meredith鈥檚 data sciences degree program will be prepared to enter a variety of fields and pursue graduate studies.

At Meredith, international student and Honors Scholar Student Nafissa Bia, 鈥25, found a vibrant community, rich experiential learning opportunities, and internships that led to a full-time position after graduation.

Jean Hinton, ’25, discovered a passion for data science through her classes at Meredith. By designing her own major, she will be the first Meredith student to earn a B.S. in statistical and data sciences.

Computer science major Wanjiru Mambo, ’24, has held several internship positions and participated in experiential experiences to expand her knowledge and network.

Students in the Spring 2025 Honors colloquium course, Data Storytelling for Societal Impact, created a guidebook on data storytelling for nonprofit organizations. The guide will be shared widely with the Meredith community.聽

缅北禁地 will offer a new major in statistical and data sciences beginning Fall 2025.聽Meredith鈥檚 Statistical and Data Sciences major will allow students to gain experience in making data-driven decisions using advanced data science techniques.

缅北禁地 student Emma Brooks, 鈥24, has been featured on the website of Women in Data Science (WiDS) Worldwide.聽 Brooks is earning a degree in mathematics and computer science with a minor in data science. In the WiDs article, she discusses how her interest in data science began at Meredith.
