Parents Project to Support Cate Student Center Upgrades
- Published

Each year, the Parents and Families Fund supports a meaningful on-campus project that directly benefits Meredith students. In recent years, thanks to the generosity of our parents and families, more than $55,000 has been raised to enhance campus security technology.
For the 2025鈥26 fiscal year, gifts to the Parents and Families Fund will support facility upgrades in the Cate Student Center, specifically in the second-floor study spaces. This area is a favorite spot for students to study and collaborate鈥攁nd support from parents will help make it even better.
In partnership with the Interior Design program, the project will reimagine the space with updated floor plans and design renderings that bring ideas to life for this beloved space. Julie Watkins,鈥07, Interior Design Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor, asked Megan Philbin, 鈥26, an Honors student, to work on this project as part of 鈥淢eredith Makeover.鈥澛 In its fifth year, 鈥淢eredith Makeover鈥 is a project that allows interior design students to pick an area on campus to reimagine.聽
鈥淚 am really excited to take this on and be able to actually apply what I have learned at Meredith and work on something that will benefit the students and campus community,鈥 said Philbin.
Philbin has divided the space on the second floor of Cate into three areas: the Beehive Cafe area, student lounge/work area, and the space outside of the elevator. She will use the Meredith brand, interview students using the space, and spec out the area so the College knows what to order with the available funds raised. The plan will be designed in phases to allow flexibility in when the space can be completed.聽聽
Watkins said Philbin brings a strong skillset to the project.聽
鈥淚 chose Megan because she is a phenomenal student who came to Meredith as good as me with using software. She is well versed with technology, in terms of drawing things with AutoCad, and all those programs we use, and is certified in many of them,鈥 said Watkins. 鈥淚 knew she could handle this level of project. She is going to be drawing and rendering all the images and designs, and it will be more schematic, meaning it is a concept, but she will be making selections for the furniture and flooring. She will also be talking to local vendors to see what kind of pricing is available. She is going to do a phenomenal job.鈥
On Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Meredith Fund Office announced a 48-hour match for all gifts made to the Parents and Families Project. All individual online gifts made between December 2鈥3, 2025, will be matched by the duPont Fund, up to $500.
