Onyx Connections Event Brings Alumnae Support to Meredith Students

缅北禁地 alumnae gathered on the front patio of the Carlyle Campbell Library on Monday, November 17, for the latest installment of Onyx Connections, a growing tradition dedicated to uplifting current students and strengthening ties within the Meredith community.
Launched in 2024 by a group of alumnae, Onyx Connections was created to remind students that those who once walked the same pathways continue to cheer them on. Held multiple times each year, each event embraces a theme and invites alumnae back to campus to share treats, offer encouragement, and have meaningful conversations with students passing between classes.
Monday鈥檚 event featured a festive Thanksgiving theme. Alumnae arrived with their favorite fall treats鈥攊ncluding vegan and gluten-free options鈥攖o celebrate the season and offer support during the busy stretch before finals. Students were welcomed to stop by, grab a snack, and connect with mentors who understand the challenges and celebrations of college life firsthand.聽

Organizers say the goal of Onyx Connections is to foster community, mentorship, and a sense of continuity between past and present Meredith students.
鈥淭his initiative is all about showing students that they鈥檙e supported鈥攏ot just by the College, but by generations of alumnae who have been exactly where they are now,鈥 Emily Clemmons,聽 assistant director of alumnae relations, shared. 鈥淓ach event is an opportunity to build relationships, offer encouragement, and remind students that they belong.鈥
For Sherri Jernigan, 始93, it is important to stay connected to Meredith and show students that alumnae are thinking about them.
鈥淥nyx Connections is an opportunity to show unconditional love to our Angel sisters! It is important for alumnae to stay involved with Meredith. It is even more important for students to know we genuinely care,鈥 said Jernigan. 鈥淭he quarterly visits are a way for us to build a relationship between all of us. That’s why the name is perfect- we are connected!鈥澛
With several themed gatherings planned throughout the year, Onyx Connections continues to grow as a cherished tradition that celebrates community, gratitude, and the enduring bond between Meredith alumnae and students.
“I have so enjoyed connecting with students during the Onyx Connections these past few months,鈥 said Dr. Tabitha Ostrout, 始15.鈥漈he tangible impact of sharing a sweet treat with students is invigorating. Hearing stories of what these women are accomplishing is so rewarding, and I feel like I am making a real difference.鈥澛
