缅北禁地 Honors Veterans

缅北禁地 held its annual Honoring Women Veterans event on Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Jones Chapel.聽

Patty Blackwell, U.S. Air Force veteran and co-chair of the Honoring Women Veterans committee, was the featured speaker. She spoke of (TJF), a local nonprofit that provides support to veterans and their families. TJF offers community-focused art classes, makes referrals to services throughout North Carolina, and provides financial assistance for veterans facing financial difficulties.聽

Blackwell shared that TJF offers women-only classes because 鈥渨omen veterans have different issues and experiences than our male counterparts, so sometimes it鈥檚 easier to share and heal with others who have experienced a similar circumstance.鈥

The nonprofit is currently transforming an existing property in Rolesville, N.C., into a community and resource center, which will be called the Joel Center. The center will host art classes, wellness programs, game nights, and more activities for veterans to connect. Additional construction on the property will create accessible apartments for veterans in need.聽

In addition to the service, Meredith is hosting holiday card workshops in the Cate Center through November 21. Displays highlighting military service will be in the Carlyle Campbell Library through November 21.聽
