Meredith Celebrates Graduate Student Appreciation Week

缅北禁地 celebrated Graduate Student Appreciation Week, April 7-11, 2025.

Meredith offers coeducational master鈥檚 degrees in biomedical sciences, business, criminal justice, education, nutrition, and psychology. The College also offers licensure-only education programs, a dietetic internship, and certificates in criminal justice, digital media, paralegal, and pre-health.聽

Each program organized a variety of celebrations during the week, acknowledging Meredith鈥檚 post-baccalaureate students with snacks, refreshments, and giveaways. Strong Stories about students in each program were featured on Meredith鈥檚 social media accounts, and the Campus Store also offered a discount for graduate students during this week.

Grad nutrition student appreciation event Tracy Smith, graduate nutrition program director, said the purpose of the week was to show appreciation for graduate students. Nutrition students were provided with treats each day.

鈥淲e hope our students feel seen, valued, and celebrated for their dedication, hard work, and the unique contributions they bring to our campus community,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淪howing them some love during Graduate Student Appreciation Week lets them know that the Meredith Community cares about them and recognizes all they bring to campus.鈥

Graduate Program Manager and Admissions Counselor for I-O Psychology, Doreen Donnelly, said the week is a way to bring more recognition to graduate students.

I-O Psycholoy Grad Student Appreciation Event鈥淲hile we hope our I-O Psychology graduate students feel supported by us year-round, we hope to provide them with a bit more recognition and highlighting during Graduate Student Appreciation Week,鈥 Donnelly said.聽 鈥淭he appreciation week pizza dinner is an opportunity for our first and second year students to enjoy a slightly longer dinner break between classes, an opportunity to mingle with each other and enjoy a dinner 鈥榦n us.鈥欌

Graduate students in Meredith鈥檚 education programs were also treated to a pizza dinner during appreciation week.聽

Graduate Program Manager for Education Donna Kocur said the students also received personal notes of appreciation from program faculty, illustrating how well Meredith gets to know its students.

Pizza party for grad ed students鈥淚 hope that our graduate students feel that the Education Department values our relationships with them. We celebrated each graduate student with a meal and a personal note of appreciation,鈥 Kocur said. 鈥淲e train our teachers to understand that the foundation of teaching is strong relationships with students, and this is just one of many ways that we model this. [We know] their backgrounds, what brought them to 缅北禁地, their teaching experiences, their professional goals, their academic successes and challenges, and their passions and pastimes.鈥澛

What Makes Meredith Graduate Students Strong?

鈥淥ur graduate students are strong because they pursue their passion with purpose, all while balancing demanding coursework with jobs, families, and community service. Their resilience, time management, and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring. I am proud of how our students represent Meredith both on and off campus. With professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Their accomplishments during the program and after graduation speak volumes about their character, drive, and the impact they’re making in the world.鈥
鈥揟racy Smith, director of the graduate nutrition program

鈥淥ur students are strong because they are passionate about teaching! In North Carolina schools, the monetary rewards are low, the conditions are challenging, and the budgets are limited. Despite this, our graduate students are here because they want to be effective teachers who positively impact the lives of their students. They are committed to investing their time and money into a graduate program because they want the best for their students. STRONG teachers change lives, and we are so proud of the way our graduate students represent 缅北禁地 as highly effective teachers in public schools.鈥
Graduate Program Manager for Education Donna Kocur

鈥淥ur graduate students show their strengths to us, in putting in strong effort academically, but also in going above and beyond to support one another in collaborative successes. We are so proud of their achievements in the classroom, within internships and professional opportunities, and in their overall growth from their start to their finish date in the program, and beyond.鈥
鈥 Doreen Donnelly, Graduate Program Manager and Admissions Counselor for I-O Psychology

Graduate and Professional Students Appreciation Week is celebrated nationally each year during the second week of April. The week highlights and celebrates graduate and professional students’ contributions, impact, and value on campuses throughout the United States.
