Lacrosse Seniors Honored in Special Commencement Ceremony

缅北禁地 held a special commencement ceremony in Johnson Hall for its Championship Lacrosse team members at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2022.

The ceremony took place because the team qualified for the tournament and round one will occur on May 14, the same day as Meredith鈥檚 regular commencement exercises.

President Jo Allen, 鈥80, Vice President for College Programs Jean Jackson, 鈥75, and Provost Matthew Poslusny helped the College provide team members with a full commencement experience. Graduating seniors Olivia Blake, Caroline Butler, and Maya Flake enjoyed shortened versions of baccalaureate, class day, and commencement.senior lacrosse players descend steps in Johnson Hall flanked by the lacrosse team as part of a special commencement ceremony.

Approximately 75 people attended, including the players鈥 teammates, families, friends, and members of the Meredith community.

Blake鈥檚 mother, Angie Blake, was pleased by the celebration.

鈥淚 really appreciate it,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 special because she gets to be with the people she鈥檚 spent the most time with over the past four years.鈥

Fellow lacrosse player Lauren Olive, 鈥22, will graduate in December. She and her teammates said they were happy to be there to honor the graduating seniors.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a more intimate graduation,鈥 said Olive. 鈥淲e鈥檙e so glad to be able to celebrate with our teammates and their families.鈥 She added, 鈥淭he best part is that we get to go to the NCAA tourney!鈥

About the Team

Meredith Lacrosse celebrated their 8th consecutive USA South Tournament Championship on their home field in Raleigh, for the first time in program history after seven previous championships held at a neutral site. Meredith鈥檚 lacrosse team will take on Stevenson University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 14.
