Guidebook / Getting Involved
Ãå±±½ûµØ offers a wide variety of campus-wide, student-led organizations to get involved in. At the start of the fall semester, Meredith hosts an activities fair where students can learn more about the different organizations, events coming up, and how to get involved. You can also review this list of student organizations and as you consider where you would like to plug in throughout your time at Meredith. Student Leadership and Service (SLS) is the office on campus that you can reach out to for information about or assistance with campus-wide events, organizations and traditions.

Additionally, there are two campus involvement opportunities that the Office of International Programs specifically helps to support: the Meredith International Association and the International Ambassadors.
Meredith International Association (MIA)
The Meredith International Association (MIA) is a student-led group that works to share knowledge and promote understanding of different cultures in the Meredith community. MIA looks to explore cultural, social, and political issues through interaction with other students, faculty, administration, and community groups.Ìý MIA hosts events like Coffee Houses, UN Dinner, and a Global Fashion Show to promote mutual respect and representation of the diverse community present at Ãå±±½ûµØ. MIA also works to facilitate friendships and connections among and beyond international students across the Meredith community. Follow MIA on Instagram to get the latest information.
International Ambassadors
International Ambassadors are a vital component to the welcome and support Ãå±±½ûµØ is able to provide to incoming international students. Please contact internationalprograms@meredith.edu for more information.
International Ambassadors are a select group of students who volunteer to serve a leadership role within the international student community at Ãå±±½ûµØ.Ìý International Ambassadors provide welcome and arrival assistance to incoming international students, are involved with the planning and facilitation of International Orientation, and provide ongoing support through peer mentorship and organizing connection opportunities throughout the year.

Between now and the beginning of August, it is anticipated that leaders may spend approximately 10 hours on ambassador commitments.Ìý These commitments include one group meeting before the semester is finished and some individual work over the summer on a specific project (planning ice breakers, social activities, or an orientation session) and emailing with an incoming international student.Ìý Ambassadors are expected to be in Raleigh onÌýTuesday, August 12 as we will have a mandatory training/meeting that afternoon, before orientation events begin on Wednesday, August 13.Ìý If you’re living on-campus, OIP will work with Residence Life to request an early move-in for you.Ìý International Orientation runs through Friday, August 15.Ìý While ambassadors will share responsibilities during orientation, please block your calendars for all of Wed – Fri until our schedule is set.Ìý Unfortunately, this does mean that RAs and SAs are unable to serve as International Ambassadors due to schedule conflicts in August. During the school year, Ambassadors should expect a monthly group meeting, regular contact with new student mentees, and one of the monthly ‘group connections’ to plan.
- Facilitate pre-arrival communication (e.g., emails, Zoom meetings, texting) to ensure new international students are well-informed and prepared for their transition.
- Provide arrival support, including airport pickups and shopping trips, to ensure a welcoming experience for new international students.
- Plan and facilitate international orientation to ensure effective content structure and engaging activities.
- Lead group discussions and ice-breaker activities during orientation, sharing personal experiences to build a sense of community among international students.
- Maintain regular communication with the new international students throughout the semester to foster ongoing connection and support.
- Participate in monthly meetings to report progress, discuss ongoing activities and plan future initiatives.
- Advocate for international students’ concerns by communicating issues to the Office of International Programs (OIP).
Interested students are invited to apply to serve as an International Ambassador . Applications are due by Monday, April 14. Welcoming new international students to Meredith is an exciting opportunity, and we appreciate your willingness to volunteer your time to make the transition a memorable and positive one for new students!

Kim Lueder ‘25 | she/her
My name is Kim Kristin, and I am one of the International Ambassadors here at Ãå±±½ûµØ. I am an international student from Hamburg, Germany, and this will be my last year at Meredith, where I am majoring in International Studies & Political Science with a Pre-Law concentration. After completing my degree, I plan to attend law school.
Chris Getaneh ‘26 | she/her
Hey Friends! I’m Christian, your soon-to-be favorite rising junior majoring in CS and Comm! I journeyed all the way from Ethiopia to Meredith, and I’m super excited to share a bit about myself. I’m all about exploring and adventure, so if you ever need a buddy for some fun escapades, count me in! I also love painting and sketching, so I’m always up for a creative session.
On campus, you’ll most definitely find me in the SMB or CHESS building, working on assignments. Feel free to chat when you see me in those buildings! My goal is to reach larger audiences by integrating my majors in Computer Science and Communications, driving innovation, and creating impactful content. Feel free to reach out if you need anything or just want to hang out. Let’s make some amazing memories together! Ìý
