鈥淚 had already earned my master鈥檚 in criminal justice and had spent my career in various paralegal-type roles before pursuing a paralegal certification. Because of my passion for law, I was eager to take the next step and see what doors would open for me.聽
I chose Meredith over other colleges because I could select a business organization concentration, which aligned with my career goals. Plus, as the only program in the Triangle approved by the American Bar Association, Meredith offered the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina State Bar鈥檚 paralegal exam.聽
I was working full-time while completing the paralegal program. During that period, I was promoted multiple times and took on more responsibilities and work travel. Balancing work, life, and school was a big challenge at first. My days were jam-packed, including working 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., attending classes on campus from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and juggling work travel, coursework, and personal life. The experience pushed me to develop time management and organizational skills that continue to benefit me today.
Positivity and adaptability have been my greatest assets in my career and education. These traits allowed me to balance my job, personal life, and studies all while maintaining a smile and positive outlook. Graduating with straight As while advancing my career and maintaining personal responsibilities proved I could accomplish anything I set my mind to.
The coursework at Meredith, taught by practicing experts in the field, is rooted in real-life scenarios, providing valuable insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a paralegal. The assignments and classwork were applicable and relevant, bridging the gap between theory and practice. While challenging at times, this hands-on approach equipped me with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the field.聽
As a mid-level professional already working as a paralegal, I truly valued the networking and professional connections at Meredith. The instructors went beyond teaching by offering guidance, staying after class to help navigate workplace challenges, and providing thoughtful advice on real-world legal issues. Even after completing the program, these relationships have remained strong, contributing to a network of trusted mentors and peers.
Currently, I work for the Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL), one of the nation鈥檚 top credit union associations, as the executive coordinator and board liaison. I play a vital role in supporting the executive office and ensuring seamless governance and operations. My role requires a high level of organization, discretion, and strategic coordination to ensure operational efficiency and strong governance.
After years of exploring different areas of law and various industries, I鈥檓 thrilled to have found a career and industry where I truly belong. One of the incredible things about a legal career is its versatility across industries, and I鈥檝e discovered my passion within the credit union industry. My future goals include growing within the CCUL, continuously expanding my education and industry expertise, earning additional certifications, and ultimately stepping into a leadership role.鈥
