Profile

William vonReichbauer is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and educator. His exceptional musicianship and rich baritone voice make him a crowd pleaser in Honky Tonks and concert halls throughout the United States.

A highly versatile musician, William performs across a diverse array of genres and styles including country, classical, rock, pop, bluegrass, musical theater, Rockabilly, folk, blues, jazz, and metal, appearing as a soloist, bandleader, accompanist, and collaborator. He can be heard on the debut EP from his hard-driving Houston-based Honky Tonk band, William and the Texas Starlight, Better Luck Next Town, and on recordings by The Broken Spokes, George Kinney and the Golden Dawn, the bo-stevens, The Darnell Woodies, Madison Abigail, Max Flinn, and Lone Star Hippie. He has also had the privilege of performing with Bonnie Montgomery, Summer Dean, Johnny Rioux and the 713, Matt Smith and the Cowboy Spankers, Billie Feather and The Hallway Waltz, Jeanie Wozencraft-Ornellas, 缅北禁地 Street Jazz Trio, Mean .44s, and he has appeared as a soloist with ROCO, the Winston-Salem Symphony, and the Triangle String Orchestra among others.

William is Music Director and primary musical collaborator for Bones and Memory Dance and frequently collaborates with artists in dance, theater, and film, including Frame Dance Productions, Mildred鈥檚 Umbrella Theater Company, Hope Stone Inc., The Open Dream Ensemble, dance artists Laura Gutierrez, jhon r. stronks, Ashley Horn, Maggie Lasher, and Jasmine Hearn, and filmmakers Alonzo Crawford and Pin Lim.

A career educator, William is Professor of Guitar and Music Technology Coordinator at 缅北禁地 in Raleigh, NC. He also teaches guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele at the High Strung School of Music in Durham, NC where he directs the weekly High Strung Honky Tonk Jam. He has previously held teaching positions at Gardner-Webb University, Salem College, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Xavier Academy, Gateway Academy, and St. Stephen鈥檚 Episcopal School. He is a former Teaching Fellow with A+ Schools of North Carolina, a teaching artist with The Open Dream Ensemble and Hope Stone, Inc., and he has directed education and outreach programs for the Albany Symphony (NY) and Spoleto Festival USA.

He is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2022 award for the Best Western Swing Band from the Texas Country Music Association for his work with The Broken Spokes, the HopeWerks Artist Residency with Hope Stone, Inc., the Semans Art Fund Grant from the North Carolina School of the Arts Foundation for study in Iserlohn, Germany, project grants from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County as a member of The Darnell Woodies, and a Gold Medal in Sailing from State Games of North Carolina.

William earned his Bachelor of Music from University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied guitar with Gerald Klickstein and Dr. Aaron Shearer and music composition with Kenneth Frazelle.

He currently lives in Durham, NC with his wife and longtime collaborator, choreographer Heather vonReichbauer, and their two cats, Buffy and Sebastian.
