In addition to delving into deeper technical skills; harder critiques; and focusing on one concept for an extended period of time, the residency program shifted the way I think. I had to seek permission at my work to adjust my schedule to attend courses at Meredith and still work full time. The challenge taught me that asking and working for things that matter to you pay off. I also learned not to hold myself back – at the residency, I made my largest work to date. The scale taught me not to shy away from big things. Whenever I think back on the three months in the residency, all I want to do is return. It was truly one of the most fulfilling (and challenging) experiences I have had to date.

Currently

As the Vice President of Myriad Art Group, I leverage my background in studio art to lead a hotel and hospitality art manufacturing company. While my day-to-day work involves a great deal of business and operations-related tasks, my creativity finds a different outlet in my personal life, such as cooking, gardening, and baking sourdough. I still find immense satisfaction in the work my company produces, and the fabrication skills I honed as an artist are invaluable assets in my current role.

Future

After completing my residency, I was determined to pursue a graduate degree and a career as a fine artist. Since diving deeper into my career I’ve shifted my focus and find fulfillment in pursuing creative solutions and surrounding myself with passionate people in the corporate world. Ultimately, art remains my driving motivation, even if my work has shifted from creating it myself to overseeing its production for a wider audience.
