After completing the AIR program at Meredith, I have been more inspired to make for the sake of making. Having the opportunity to work with Meredith鈥檚 dedicated staff again was not only nostalgic and a joy but made me feel like I was part of the art community again. Having open studio access, as well as access to the brains of such original thinkers, made for a great environment to re-discover my creative voice- not only as an educator but as an individual. This revitalization would not have happened without pursuing the Artist In Residency Program.聽
I am currently a High School Art Educator at East Wake Academy in Zebulon. I am in my seventh聽year of teaching visual arts. In the last few years, I have taught Art 1 to Honors Art 6 as well as photography independent studies and a ceramics course. I continue to manage a small photography business (Bekahmortonphotography.com) in my free time. Art is and will always be the foundation of my career, and really my life.聽
In my personal art, I have focused more on nostalgia and imagery that I have captured from the last 10 years of my life. I have done many portraits, scenes, and still lives that evoke strong emotion in me and commemorate this time. I am always trying to improve my technique to improve my teaching. I have also found a love for murals, and I have completed 5 in the last
As a lover of all art forms, I hope to stay in education and continue to teach visual arts in some form throughout life. The joy it brings me to see the love of art form in others gives me purpose and a warm heart. I am so very grateful to have had the opportunity to affirm my future goals, make new goals, and experience Meredith鈥檚 art department years after graduation. I still love and appreciate this art department and hope to visit soon!
